1. Line them up item by item
Ask every company for an itemized quote, then put them side by side. Look for differences in:
- Scope: size, materials, and what's included
- Preparation: excavation depth, base material, compaction
- Hidden layers: drainage, filter fabric, geogrid, edge restraint
- Finishing: restoration of lawn and beds, cleanup and haul-away
- Extras: permits, engineering, utility locates
The cheapest quote is often missing something you'll pay for later.
2. Ask what's underneath
